Onondaga County is a located in midwestern New York. It is the home to the city of Syracuse, which has a significant portion of Onondaga county's population. Onondaga County has a total area of approximately 806 square miles of which 97% is land and 3% water. As of the census² of 2000, there were 458,336 people, 181,153 households, and 115,394 families residing in the Onondaga county. The county's name derives from the Native American people who lived there and currently the county is home to the Onondaga Reservation.
